WayForward Tapped to Develop Smurfs 2 for Ubisoft

We’re always excited to talk about WayForward at ++GG, and the licenses are no different. With the likes Thor, Despicable Me, and Aliens: Infestation (all movie licenses) shining through the typical lackluster license lot, they really know how to excel at piecing together platformers. We expect Smurfs 2 will be no different. – JB

Disney Infinity Toy Box Gameplay

A little bit Skylanders, and a little bit Little Big Planet, the ailing Disney Interactive looks to be able to recover, and recover well, with the 100% “Disney” Disney Infinity. I can’t wait. – JB

R.I.P. LucasArts

A mere 154 days after acquiring the total Star Wars Package, Disney has decided to shutter the video game division of the Lucas brands family, LucasArts. This comes as a particular disappointment to gamers awaiting the spectacular looking Star Wars 1313, as it has been canceled. I remain hopeful for the title, as something of [...]

Kojima to demo FOX Engine at GDC

As originally reported by Joystiq, Mr. Hideo Kojima will be speaking about his new Metal Gear project, Ground Zeroes, at this year’s Game Developers Conference; and he’ll be, purportedly, discussing the engine at the heart of the game, FOX Engine. Mr. Kojima hasn’t spoken at a GDC since 2009, so I’m sure you’re all waiting [...]

Vicarious Visions Steps up to the Skylanders Plate.

The world of collectible toy video games has been turned on it’s head! Hot on the heels of Disney’s announcement of Disney Infinity, Activision has registered website domains for FOUR new Skylanders brands. Now, we’re well aware that the registration of a domain really doesn’t mean anything, however, as originally reported by Joystiq, this time there’s product followup with one [...]

UPDATE: As of today, all employees of THQ have been advised to collect their personal items, as access to the building will be cut off at the end of the day. An additional auction has been planned to sell off the remaining items that didn’t sell the first go ’round. In a particularly sad [...]

Operation Rainfall is a COMPLETE Success!

When it began, OpRainfall had set goals to see three specific Wii titles make their way across the Pacific to hit American shelves – Xenoblade, the Last Story, and Pandora’s Tower. Xenoblade was redubded “Xenoblade: Chronicles,” and published in the States by Nintendo, and XSEED brought The Last Story to us. This was months ago. [...]

It’s only been two weeks…I’m just sayin’…

Two weeks ago I wrote a blog article clarifying Nintendo president Satoru Iwata’s “there was a miscalcluation” quote.  In the article talked about executive level firings, finger pointing, stock drops, potential store closures and video game crashes. Soon after I had posted, comments came in saying that I was unfairly bashing Nintendo or that I [...]
